A new paper from UCL—RAID-AgiVS: A Bio-Inspired Reciprocal Perceptual Control Framework for Agile Visual Servo—quietly demonstrates something remarkable.

On its surface, the work provides a robust control architecture for agile robotic perception. But at a deeper structural level, RAID-AgiVS shows a machine doing something that biological systems must do to survive: maintain coherent alignment between internal predictions and a volatile external world.

The robot is not “understanding” anything.

But it is solving the same class of problem that underwrites meaning in humans.

RAID-AgiVS therefore offers a clean, empirical example of something that AToM (A Theory of Meaning) has argued from a theoretical standpoint: coherence under constraint is the fundamental invariant across systems that must remain themselves in changing environments.
